Knowing your reason Why...
A topic often spoken about, but not taken seriously enough in my experience. This is for me, one of the foundations of being able to achieve whatever it may be you want in life. Many overlook this and just go from day-to-day, this really doesn’t help you get to where you want.
What was my reason why?
Let’s start from the beginning, from as early as 7 years old I can specifically remember thinking ‘I want to see as much of the world as possible, when I want and be able to provide financially for all of my family without having to worry’. This probably sounds unusual to most at such a young age…maybe I was a weird kid who knows…
However, I looked at this more as being lucky, I was lucky enough to know what I wanted at such a young age. This then enabled me to set a strategy from such a young age on how can I get there… (a story for another blog on how). I’m glad to say that knowing my why most definitely helped me achieve what I wanted and have been lucky to visit a lot of the world (far more to see yet), below are some of my favourites so far (nothing against the countries not listed);
- Madagascar
- South Africa
- Columbia
- Iceland
- Cyprus
- Greece & Multiple Greek islands
- Italy
- Belgium
- USA
- Maldives
- Mauritius
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Spain
As time goes on your reasons why can change, hence the main image is of my son Otis… I can safely say he has completely changed my reasons why since the day of his birth (hasn’t removed my travel bug though…he is just going to join).
How to figure out your why…
German philosopher Frederick Nietzsche once said, ‘He who has a why can endure any how.’ Knowing your why is an important first step in figuring out how to achieve the goals that excite you and create a life you enjoy living (versus merely surviving!).
Having carried out talks all over the world, I understand that not everyone finds it easy to figure this out so below I have added tips. As I have re-evaluated as mentioned and definitely had a stage of struggling to understand what my future was once I achieved my original goal, below is some key points to help figure it out
1. What makes you come alive?
2. What’s your greatest strength?
3. What are your key values in life?
4. Where do you add the greatest value?
5. On your death bed…how will you measure your life?
Trust me, taking a hard look at those five things will really help you figure this out.
If you want to learn more about how to focus or invest then drop me a line. Happy to fill in the gaps above.
